gray whales in magdalena bayGray Whale watching in Lopez Mateos is an incredible experience! The laguna is quiet but full of life, for thousands of years the gray whales have migrated here to give birth to their calves and nourish them until they are strong enough to make their journey back to the cold waters of Alaska. Lopez Mateos, also known as Magdalena Bay, is one of the few places in the world where you can have a very intimate whale watching experience: over the years the whales have become very used to having curious humans come from very far to see them! After being put on the list of endangered species in 1940 the gray whale population has risen again: now the reestablished confidence in human beings has evolved so far that the animal is now approaching the boats to seek interaction with us! Cabo Trek organizes a 2 day trip to Magdalena Bay (Lopez Mateos) starting from Cabo San Lucas. The time getting to our destination will be filled with lots of information about the Baja California Sur region and you will have the time to appreciate the incredible scenery offered by the desert. In these 2 days we will be out whale watching for around 5 to 6 hours split in 2 tours: one in the afternoon after arrival and one the next morning after breakfast. The timing is optimized for providing the best possible whale watching experience:

  • few boats in the laguna,
  • perfect light conditions for photographers,
  • calm waters.

We will have the chance to walk on the sand dunes and enjoy the view of hundreds of migrating birds and also dolphins, as they are inhabitants of these warm waters. Enjoying Dinner with friends in Puerto Lopez Mateos This trip will familiarize you with the Mexican culture as you will get to know the incredible friendly people of Lopez Mateos while we enjoy a nice lobster dinner. Lunch at arrival is based on fish, meat or chicken tacos, while breakfast you can choose how you’d like your eggs cooked. This trip is becoming increasingly popular and people are coming from all over the world to experience these great animals in their natural habit. Cabo Trek, winner of 3 certificates of excellence by TripAdvisor (2014, 2015 & 2016), is dedicated to providing a quality and passionate service for small groups that like the eco tourism concept and are truly nature lovers.
