For comfort, safety, and the best El Triunfo Tour, we travel in small groups.
El Triunfo, an actual Ghost Town hidden at the foot of the Sierra de la Laguna, was a town once populated with over 10.000 people eager to find gold. After the 1849 gold-rush wave in San Francisco, United States, the tiny village between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur experimented with something similar.
El Triunfo, a town born in the 16th Century, rapidly grew in 1862 after gold was discovered and became the most modern city featuring luxuries such as telephones and running water. For a short period, it was considered the capital of Baja California Sur.
In 1918 the sunny days were over suddenly due to the strike of a hurricane which flooded the mines.
In modern days El Triunfo is now a Ghost Town with roughly 500 people living off tourism. The 35m (105ft) smokestack is one of the most visible remainings of the golden age, called Ramona; the chimney underwent complete restoration work, which was ended in 2018 and is now ready to survive many more hurricanes and earthquakes.
During our visit to the ghost town, we will see what a mine will look like and the working conditions. Also, we will see the remains of the Panteon Chino and the English, the Chinese, and the English graveyard.
Are you wondering why Chinese?? There’s only one way to find out!!
Hear spooky stories about seer and witches, enjoy some delicious Mexican food and spend a day exploring the real Mexico!
